Ferry-online GTC – General Terms and Conditions
Version: 05.02.2026
Introduction / Role of ferry-online.ch
Our web server, based on the Liknoss Ltd. API and hereinafter referred to as the “Web Server”, compares ferry prices and timetables and allows you to book crossings. The website is owned by Alinavi GmbH (hereinafter referred to as “we” or the “Company”). We do not operate any ferries ourselves, and every booking you make via the Web Server or our ferry call center is subject to these General Terms and Conditions (GTC) and also to the terms and conditions of the shipping companies. We act primarily as an intermediary (agent) between the customer and the shipping company/provider.
1. Scope
The person who makes the booking, and all persons for whom the booking is made on our Web Server or through our customer service, are referred to in these terms and conditions as the “Customer”. In these terms and conditions we use the term “Services” to describe the services we offer. These services are provided by third parties, such as shipping companies. They are the actual contractors and providers.
By completing the booking, the Customer confirms:
- that they are of legal age and have legal capacity, or that they act with the consent of their legal representative, and
- that they are authorized to use the stated payment method.
2. Parties / Contractual relationship
Your booking forms a contract with us as well as with the shipping company (each being a “Provider”), whose terms and conditions are made available to you before you confirm the booking and which you must also accept when booking. It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the Provider’s terms and conditions that apply to your booking.
In case of any conflict between our terms and the Provider’s terms and conditions, the Provider’s terms and conditions shall prevail. It is important to understand that we operate this Web Server, but the Providers for your crossing are the respective shipping companies.
These terms and conditions may be amended from time to time. However, any changes do not affect bookings that have already been made. Please save the booking terms applicable at the time of booking so that you can refer to them later.
The person making the booking is responsible for ensuring that all booking information is provided correctly and completely. In particular, we owe the proper mediation/transmission of the booking data and the issuance/delivery of the booking confirmation/ticket documents in accordance with the Provider’s specifications; the transportation service itself is owed exclusively by the Provider.
3. Prices and general information
Prices are based on the vehicle type (if applicable), the number of passengers, route(s), travel dates and times. Your booking may require you to travel outbound and/or return on specified dates and times. If you do not comply with such specified dates and times, you may be refused travel and/or your booking details and accommodation may be changed and/or additional fees may be charged. In particular, the benefits of special fares may be lost.
Any additional fees mentioned in this paragraph may subsequently be charged to your credit or payment card at any time without further prior notice.
IMPORTANT: Additional charges to your card will only occur if (a) you expressly accepted them at checkout (e.g., service fee, ticket price, taxes/charges) or (b) you expressly request a subsequent change/service (e.g., rebooking) and we obtain renewed consent/payment authorization for this.
Vehicle and passenger spaces and onboard accommodation are subject to capacity restrictions and may therefore not always be available. Special offers are subject to additional special terms and conditions alongside these GTC. We reserve the right to change any displayed prices up to the confirmation of the booking if Providers change their prices. All prices are shown as binding in checkout before the booking is completed (ticket price, fees, taxes/charges, and currency).
Items such as roof boxes, bicycle racks or other add-ons attached to the vehicle incur an additional fee. Not all ferry operators accept bookings for people with disabilities, as some operators do not have adequate facilities. At the time of booking, it should be clarified whether the ferry operator has the relevant facilities.
4. Timetables
All departure/return times are estimates provided by the ferry operator and are stated in local time – please refer to your booking confirmation. We recommend that you check with the ferry operator for any changes before traveling.
Due to adverse weather and/or tidal conditions and/or other circumstances, timetables may be disrupted and/or sailing times extended and/or certain crossings cancelled. For various operational, technical or scheduling reasons, it may be necessary for certain crossings to use different ships or different departure/return times than stated, or to cancel the offered crossing.
The Company assumes no responsibility of any kind for any costs or inconvenience arising from such circumstances, but we will endeavor, where possible, to notify you using the contact details you provided at the time of booking. The Providers’ terms and conditions apply to liability in these situations.
5. Animals
The transport of animals is only permitted if the Customer informs us before booking. Such carriage must be in accordance with all relevant legal requirements and the instructions of the respective ferry operator. A fee is charged for transporting animals and additional conditions may be imposed.
You are legally responsible for the animals and bear sole responsibility for obtaining all necessary documents, permits and approvals. Note: Depending on the route/country (e.g., entry/veterinary rules), additional documents may be required; the relevant requirements are those of the Provider and the authorities.
6. Freight and commercial passenger transport vehicles
Vehicles over 6.5 m in length, especially if specifically designed or modified for freight transport (whether they actually carry goods or not), are subject to special fares, as are other vehicles carrying commercial goods or traveling for commercial purposes.
If a vehicle was booked as a passenger car or private vehicle but turns out to be a freight vehicle, the full fare will be charged and/or its carriage will be refused without refund. For further information about freight fares and prices, please contact the freight department of the respective shipping company.
7. Dangerous goods
Neither the Company nor the Providers accept bookings for vehicles carrying dangerous or hazardous substances, including, under certain circumstances, vehicles powered by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Under certain circumstances, written permission may be obtained from the ferry operator, but such permission may be subject to additional fees and conditions. You are responsible to the ferry operator for the carriage of such substances, whether declared or not.
8. Confirmation and payment
Each booking must be paid in advance at the time of booking before a booking confirmation can be issued. Payment can be made by credit/debit card. Company/business cards may incur a surcharge charged by the respective bank or financial institution.
If you contact the Company to make a booking and you have made full payment for all customers on the booking, we will issue a confirmation listing the details of your reservation. If you do not receive a booking confirmation by email within 24 hours after booking, please contact us at info@ferry-online.ch or by phone at +41 56 444 10 26.
You agree that the details of your booking stored in our system or in the Provider’s system constitute evidence of your booking and booking details. If payment is made by debit or credit card, the account will be charged at the time of booking.
Depending on the type of ticket selected and the number of passengers (and therefore the value of the ticket), a service fee may be added to the ticket price. This will be displayed before you confirm the booking.
The contract between you and us is concluded once all booking details have been confirmed by you, either through electronic confirmation on our site or by phone or fax.
Payment processing is carried out via a certified payment service provider (e.g., Worldline). Card data is generally processed directly by the payment service provider; we do not store full card information in our systems.
For the checkout/payment page: the Customer must actively confirm that they have read and accepted the GTC as well as the cancellation/refund terms.
Ticket delivery / Service provision: After successful payment, you will usually receive a booking confirmation by email immediately (no later than within 24 hours, provided the Provider confirms the booking). Depending on the shipping company, you will receive either an e-ticket/PDF, a booking code/PNR, or instructions to obtain the boarding pass at the port/online check-in.
Abuse / suspected fraud: In case of suspected abusive use (e.g., unauthorized card use), we may suspend the execution/delivery of ticket documents until clarification and/or cancel the booking in accordance with Provider rules.
9. Cancellation, changes, check-in
9.1 Cancellation
If the purchased ticket allows cancellations, you may cancel your booking and arrange a refund. The Company’s and the shipping company’s general terms and conditions apply.
A cancellation fee of at least CHF 50 or € 50 (or any other amount shown on our website), depending on the currency in which the booking was made, will apply. In addition, any fees charged by the shipping company will apply. Bookings and tickets purchased under special conditions (special offers, promotional offers) may, in some cases, not be cancellable.
If a Customer cannot take the crossing for which the booking was made, a refund can only be made in accordance with the applicable terms and conditions of the Provider.
Switzerland note: Swiss law generally does not provide a general right of withdrawal for contracts concluded online; therefore, the cancellation/rebooking rules according to the ticket/Provider and the fees stated here are decisive.
9.2 How do I obtain a refund?
Call us at +41 56 444 10 26 at least 2 days before departure. Have your booking ID ready. If you are entitled, you will receive a refund within 5 business days to the payment method used for your booking. Note: Depending on the bank/card issuer, the credit may take a few additional days.
9.3 Change fees
Changes can only be made subject to the Provider’s availability. Some changes may result in a change fee. In addition, we charge any ticket price difference between the booked ticket and the new crossing. Some bookings such as special offers or special tickets cannot be changed. If an additional payment is required for a change, this will be made only after your express confirmation as part of a separate payment authorization.
9.4 Check-in
The latest check-in times are visible during booking and are also stated on the booking confirmation. If a Customer does not arrive in time for the latest check-in time, the crossing cannot be guaranteed, as customers from the waiting list may already have been accepted.
If a Customer has special needs or has received our permission to transport animals or dangerous goods, the Customer is generally expected to arrive for check-in earlier than stated. It is entirely at the discretion of the ferry operator whether to accept a passenger, their vehicle or their luggage on board.
Each Customer must personally carry all required travel documents for entry into the destination country and for return to the departure country. You are responsible for ensuring that the name in each Customer’s passport matches the name on the ticket. Otherwise, the Customer may not be able to travel and travel insurance may be invalid.
Your responsibility
You are responsible vis-à-vis the Company and the ferry operator for complying with these booking terms and all additional requirements imposed by the ferry operator or by law. You are also responsible for providing complete and correct information about your booking, including vehicle and customers.
Mandatory law
Your booking is subject to all mandatory laws or conventions relating to ferry bookings.
Events beyond the control of all parties
If an unforeseen event that cannot be avoided by us or the Providers despite due foresight significantly affects the booked crossing, either you or we may terminate the contract.
Our liability
We are responsible for:
- the selection and monitoring of the Providers;
- the accuracy of all information we have conveyed.
We are not responsible for information that was not conveyed by us, including information published on the Providers’ websites. We are not responsible for the crossing you booked through us; responsibility for this lies with the Provider.
To the extent permitted by law, our liability for slight negligence is excluded; mandatory liability provisions (in particular for personal injury) remain reserved.
Consent
You agree that we act as an intermediary between you and the Provider, and we cannot be held liable for the Provider’s services.
